MTO does Laurel & Hardy do the Montreal Jazz Festival

Classic comedy is given a rollicking musical goose by trumpeter/slide trumpeter, bandleader, arranger, and composer extraordinaire Steven Bernstein, who has created new original scores to a selection of Laurel and Hardy films. When Bernstein’s incendiary Millennial Territory Orchestra — jam packed with some of New York’s finest musicians — takes the stage and Laurel & Hardy hit the screen, hilarity, along with some astonishing musical invention, will ensue

Louis Armstrong Once Removed

Catherine Russell is a great singer, and is also the daughter of Louis Russell, who was Louis Armstrong’s bandleader in the 30’s. S Bernstein wrote a rearrangement of her father’s song “So Little Time”, originally recorded by Louis Armstrong and his orchestra in 1938. Steven and Erik Lawrence also play along with maestro Howard Johnson (on tuba) on a piece Louis Russell wrote for King Oliver. The CD also features MTO guitar hero Matt Munisteri and was produced by Levon Helm bandmate Larry Campbell. “I guess this is as close as I’ll get to the source”
